Sophie Davies has been chosen for the Welsh squad of the bowls under 25 team. Alun Lewis continues to be at Ward 9. Peggy Williams is now in Mynyddmawr. Beth Griffiths is at Morriston. Glen Davies has been admitted to Prince Philip. Mervin Hanbury has been admitted to Prince Philip Hospital.
Our thoughts and prayers are with these dear friends.

CHURCH CHOIR:

The church choir begin rehearsals for their Easter presentation the musical ‘Redeeming Love’ an Easter Musical next Thursday 26th January. New choristers are always welcome. The choir meets on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm until 8.15pm including a time for coffee and fellowship! More information Llanelli 741127.

Unsung Heroes Llanelli Chapel Musicians:

Huw Edwards of the BBC will deliver a talk in the Glenalla Civic Hall on Friday 27th January at 07.30 p.m. on the Unsung Heroes - Llanelli Chapel Musicians. This talk has been arranged by the Llanelli District Music and Drama Club and tickets are priced £7.50.

All proceeds are in aid of Ty Bryngwyn Hospice. Tickets are available from George Lewis in Llanelli Market, Llanelli Library. Annette also has a supply in Greenfield.

GREENFIELD:
Denys Jenkins was baptised last Sunday and received into membership of the church. Following this service we look forward to another baptismal service in the new year.

HOSPITALS:

Gwennie Morris continues to be at Ward 9 Prince Philip. Beth Griffiths is at Morriston Hospital. Anne Evans (Pwll) is at Glangwili Hospital. Alun Lewis continues to be at Ward 9 Prince Philip Hospital. Gerald and Maureen Carman have celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary. Brian Nicholas has celebrated his 70th birthday.

BIBLE STUDIES:

Christianity Explored continues into the new year and all who have come along have appreciated the teaching and challenge of every session. We have just completed a four week course with Doreen Harland on the Christian God (this will be available in booklet form in the new year) and Doreen is now preparing a Lenten course which we look forward to. Following Christianity Explored we will follow a study on the book of Job. Why not make an early New Year’s Resolution and join with us – All are welcome. PANTOMIME:

TUESDAY SERVICE:

Next Tuesday will be a carol service followed by mince pies and coffee in the schoolroom. Last Tuesday’s cakes stall raised £250 for the Ty Bryngwyn Hospice. There will be no Tuesday services on 27th December. On Tuesday 3rd January the Greenfield church choir will repeat the Gospel Musical ‘The Splendour of Christmas’ which was presented on 11th December.

During the `Toy Service` this morning, the Rev. David Jones had the pleasure of presenting a cheque for the sum of £3025 to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The money was raised from the Greenfield annual sponsored walk that took place in September.

GREENFIELD FAMILY NEWS:

Gwennie Morris continue to be at Ward 9 Prince Philip. Alun Lewis has been admitted to Prince Philip Hospital. Spencer Crossman and Anne Evans have also been admitted to Glangwili Hospital. Christine Nicholas was admitted to hospital this week and is now home. Christine John and Patricia Walker have celebrated their 60th birthdays.

LOOKING FORWARD:

The annual Advent Bereavement service will be held on Thursday 8th December at 7pm. This service has become very much part of our Advent season.

BAPTISMAL SERVICE:

Sunday evening 4th December when our good friend Dennis Jenkins will be baptised and welcomed into membership of the church

TUESDAY NEWS:

Our Christmas Lunch will be held at the Lliedi Suite following our service and coffee on Tuesday 13th December. At 7pm we meet around the Christmas Tree for an ‘open air’ carol service with the Llanelli Salvation Army Band.
The cakes stall and other stalls on 6th December will be in aid of the Ty Bryngwyn Hospice. Any donations for the stalls would be gratefully received by Cheryl Pike,. The cakes stall for January and February will be for the Llanelli Hospital League of friends.

There will be no Tuesday service on 27th December.

We re-commence on Tuesday 3rd January. Thanks for the retiring offerings taken for ‘Crisis’ at Christmas. The last offering will was on Tuesday of this week.. There will be no Tuesday service on 27th December. We re-commence on Tuesday 3rd January.

TOY SERVICE:

Again this year large number of new toys were brought to the annual toy service. They will be distributed by local social services and we appreciate their support. We welcomed local scouts groups and guides to the service and which was a joyous celebration of Advent.

CHOIR:

Our church choir will be singing at the ‘Torch’ Fellowship Ammanford Evangelical Church on Saturday. They will present the Christmas Musical ‘The Splendour of Christmas’ on Sunday evening 11th December.

Thought for the Week

Thought for the Week - from the Rev. David Jones:

The statement by the Bank of England that things are going to get worse before they get better brought new jitters this week. With youth unemployment at an all time high and the prospect of strike action by public sector workers looming perhaps we can’t be blamed in hoping for some good news in these cold November days. There again it’s not as bad as it may seem. The tremendous response to the ‘Children in need, the record numbers at the Llanelli Remembrance service and then at the ‘Festival of light’. Despite all the bad news, there’s much that we can celebrate as a community which gives us hope.

That, of course, is the central theme of Advent. It was to a dark and lost world that the message of God’s love was revealed. That’s why Jesus is called the ‘light’ of the world and this Christmas again we are reminded of God entering the world in loneliness and poverty as Mary and Joseph’s need for someone to care was ignored again and again. As a last resort a busy innkeeper’s conscience was stirred and the Saviour of the World was born in the squalor of a stable shed.

If times are tough then this is the message we need to hear. God is not remote and far removed from our sufferings and sorrows. The financial world may be in turmoil, there are wars raging and we all have our own anxieties and concerns.

Look for the gems of hope that we see all around us and more than anything else know that God understands and cares even when we feel the world is passing us by. After all that’s the Advent message – Immanuel – God is with us!

THANKS:

Thanks to Carol Jones and members of the Llanelli Leukemia Committee for the concert on Thursday evening of last week. There was a large appreciative audience and with our own Denis Jenkins the compare for the evening and so the was much good natured humour as well. Thanks to all from Greenfield who served the tea and coffee to the choirs and artistes. Hopefully a good amount of money will have been raised for this very worthy cause.

CHRISTMAS CARDS:

The Greenfield Christmas cards are on sale and are selling well. Please do not be disappointed and get yours now as they are going quickly! Ann Vaughan Jones has kindly agreed to sell the cards and Ann will be in the Minister’s room following the Sunday morning service. They are also available on Sunday evening and Tuesday morning. Priced at £3 for 10 and any profits will be for the good causes we support as a church.

TOY SERVICE:

We will be joined by local scouts and guides for the annual toy service on Sunday 27th November. We are grateful to Mrs. Jill Lewis for accepting toys, and any toys new, or in good condition are welcomed. Toys are then donated to local social services and are much needed.

CHURCH MEMBERS MEETING:

All the reports given on the buildings, health and safety, and Financial reports were accepted by the membership We are encouraged by the Tuesday meetings attendances and the beginning of Christianity Explored which is being held up to Christmas. Our mission as a church to the community is a central part of our life and we pray that God will lead us as he would see us move forward to the future. The new Pastoral care plans was introduced where members and friends will receive a pastoral prayer card with links to follow which hopefully will ensure that no one is overlooked as far as care and prayer is concerned. These cards will be distributed in the next month.

A major work in the new year will be the complete electrical rewiring of the chapel and schoolroom. The church meeting authorizing the change of church rules in relation to future election of deacons. After much discussion the church accepted the recommendations of the diaconate and these were passed unanimously.

LOOKING FORWARD:

The annual Advent Bereavement service will be held on Thursday 8th December at 7pm. This service has become very much part of our Advent season. For some Christmas is not an easy time and we pray that this service will be of help and comfort. Nativity Rehearsals for the children will be held from Friday 25th November between 5 & 6pm and every Friday following. The final rehearsal will be held on Saturday 17th December between 1.30pm and 3pm. The Children’s Christmas party will follow.

BIBLE STUDY:We have greatly blessed over the last four weeks as Doreen Hartland has led our Bible studies around the theme ‘The Christian God’ Our thanks to Doreen for leading us despite the sad loss of Peter. Doreen has kindly agreed to another course during Lent next year.

LEUKEMIA RESEARCH:The local Leukemia research committee are holding a concert in the chapel on Thursday 10th November. Taking part will be the Morriston RFC Choir, Voices in Harmony, Bryn School choir, Eve Darling Owen – Soprano. Compare Dennis Jenkins (Denny Twp) All proceeds to the local Leukemia Committee. There will also be a concert on Saturday 19th November in aid of one of our young people who is going abroad to do mission and voluntary work next summer with the Ezra and Nehemiah Trust. Taking part will be the Swansea Male Gospel Choir. An offering will be taken in the concert.

CHRISTIANITY EXPLORED:The new Christianity Explored is held on Tuesday at 7.30pm and on Wednesday at 1.10pm. The teenagers are also be following the course on Sunday mornings and there’s a welcome to everyone to come along and learn more about the truths of the Christian faith. The Tuesday meeting is a warm friendly fellowship and concludes with coffee. If you are unable to come on Tuesdays then there’s always Wednesdays! 1.10pm until 1.50pm. If you are unable to come every week that’s no problem there’s a helpful course book for all who attend and each session begins with a film introduction. SPONSORED WALK The annual Sponsored walk this year was held in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust ( Wales ) The amount raised was £2500 and this will be presented on Sunday 27th November during the morning service.

Thought for the week

There’s no doubt that the best team lost last Saturday. This new, exciting, young Welsh team who have been exemplary in their play and behaviour did not deserve to have lost such a decisive game. The media were swift in their reaction and analysis of the game will continue long into the future. What is of greater importance is that this team have brought us as a nation new standing on the Rugby World stage and can return home with their heads held high to the welcome they richly deserve.

There again life is often unfair. Words we have spoken in haste that may have ruined a loving relationship, an act of foolishness that changed everything and left us alone and misunderstood.

We may have found it hard to make amends, and even when we tried our apologies and regret may have fallen on such deaf ears that the reconciliation and forgiveness we needed were not given. That in itself can be hurtful and how then we wished to turn the clock back and have a new beginning.

Can we then ever find peace? The Bible tells us that God understands our worries and concerns. In being sure of that we can commit our future to him and because he knows our hearts will willingly forgive us even when we find it hard to forgive ourselves. Given that confidence we can have a renewed hope and a Godly peace.

‘Come to me’ said Jesus, ‘all you who are tired from carrying heavy loads and I will give you rest’ - that’s definitely a new beginning!

FAMILY NEWS:

Ken and Joan Jarvis have celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary .

TUESDAY NEWS:
There will be a cakes stall this Tuesday and the first Tuesday of November in aid of the Breast Care Centre at Prince Philip Hospital. The Tuesday cakes stall have raised several thousand pounds for local good causes.

Every year we also support ‘Crisis at Christmas’ which opens centres all over the Christmas period for those who are homeless. This year we will also be supporting the work of the London City Mission who also have a Christmas programme.. The offerings taken will be divided between both causes. The offerings will be taken from Tuesday 13th October until the 29th of November.

It’s not too late to join with us for the Christmas lunch at the Lliedi Suite – Terry Pike would be glad to hear from you. We were also able to send £250 to the Ty Bryngwyn Hospice.

BIBLE STUDY:

Doreen Hartland will be re-commencing the course ‘The Christian God’ on Tuesday 11th October and Wednesday 12th October. From Tuesday 8th November we begin a five week course on Christian Discipleship. More information soon.

HALLELUJAH PARTY:

The annual Hallelujah Party will be held on Monday 31st October at 6pm the schoolroom. Music, fun, hot dogs and games as an alternative the Halloween. – All children and young people are more than welcome.

PANTOMIME:
Our annual visit to the Pantomime with our own Denny Twp will be on Saturday 28th January 2012 at 2pm. Children of the church go free of charge, all others £7.50. If you would like to come along then please give your names to Mrs Carol Jones.

CD RECORDINGS:

We are grateful to Darryl who records the services every Sunday and enables us to send edited recordings of two of the services fortnightly for the housebound and those who request them. We have now a new recorder which makes the process easier. If you would like someone you know to have a copy then please let us on Llanelli 741127.

GREENFIELD NEWS - 29 September 2011:

FAMILY NEWS:

Marjorie and Glen Davies have been unwell in recent months. Marjorie fell last week and has broken her ankle. Eunice Bowen celebrated her 90th birthday. Kate and Rhys Lawson have moved to Durham where Rhys begins at University.

One of our oldest church members Edith Hussey has died.
The funeral service of Peter Hartland was held at Greenfield last Thursday followed by cremation at the Llanelli Crematorium. The chief Executive of ‘Mission Africa’ Rev Dr Peter Bailie spoke of Peter’s service on the mission field, always a wonderful support to Doreen who served as a teacher Missionary in Nigerian for many years.
The funeral of Jamie Phillips was held at Greenfield on 14th September. Jamie died tragically on 3rd September.

HARVEST 2011:

This year’s harvest supper will be held on Monday 10th October at 6.30pm in the schoolroom. The tickets are £6 and available from Janice or Brenda. The proceeds are in aid of the chapel building fund.
There will be a special offering for the relief work of BMS World Mission. Harvest envelopes will be distributed in the next few weeks.

Our Harvest services this year will be held on Sunday 16th October. The morning service will be ‘All Age’ Family worship and the evening service will be a service of praise and thanksgiving. Each Autumn we have ‘Back to church’ Sunday and our Harvest service will be an opportunity for us to welcome family members and friends.

TUESDAY NEWS:

Thanks for the donation of £200 made to the Teenage Cancer Trust Sponsored Walk. The cakes stall for October and November will be for the breast care centre at Prince Philip Hospital. The Christmas lunch this year will be held on 13th December at 12 noon at the Lliedi Suite. If you would like to join with us then please let Terry or Cheryl know.
There will be no Tuesday morning service on 27th December. We re-commence after Christmas on 3rd January.

Elizabeth Williams who celebrates a special birthday today.We bid farewell to Abigail, Elenor and Isabel who along with Dad Richard have been worshipping with us on an extended visit and holiday from Hong Kong

TUESDAY SERVICE
Our service last week commemorated the birth of William Carey who founded the Baptist Missionary Society and is considered the pioneer of modern mission.
It has been good to see new faces and there’s a warm welcome to everyone to join in this half hour service which is followed by coffee in the schoolroom. We hold a monthly cakes stall for local and national causes and in August raised £130 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The September stall is also in aid of this very worthy cause.. During the year we welcome speakers from SASRA (the Scripture readers in the armed forces) and the London City Mission.

Our summer outing to St Fagans in June saw nearly a hundred enjoy a visit to the museum with a service at the Penrhyw chapel. Our Christmas lunch following the morning service on Tuesday 13th December will be held at the Lleidi Suite at the Selwyn Samuel Centre. The coffee offering helps us support the work of Home Mission, BMS, Crisis at Christmas and the South Wales Baptist College as well as other causes which we support as a church.

CHOIR
Choir rehearsal begin on Thursday as we prepare for the Harvest services in October and the Christmas presentation. The choir will also be singing in the morning service on September18th.

SPONSORED WALK
This year’s Sponsored Walk for the Teenage Cancer Trust will be held on Saturday 17th September along the Millennium Coastal Walk. The Tuesday cakes stalls for September will also be in aid of this very worthy cause. Please join with us to support this very worthy cause. Please ‘phone Llanelli 741127 for a sponsor form. The walk commences at 10am and we return to Greenfield for lunch.

GREENFIELD NEWS -20th June 2011:

Last Sunday was Father’s Day and during the Junior church time there was a drama presentation by the ‘Skit Guys’ – a humorous look at what it means to be a Dad today. The church choir sang the Roger Jones anthem ‘Man of Sorrows’. The whole service was centred around the Fatherhood of God and the church as a family of God’s people. Every Sunday there is Junior church and crèche for children and teenagers. The teenagers have been following the Christianity Explored course ‘Soul’ in recent weeks and the Tuesday and Wednesday Bible studies are also been using this excellent resource for their studies.

It was good to welcome Rev Mark Thomas to Greenfield for the first time on Sunday 12th June. Mark was the Minister of Hope Baptist Church in Bridgend before taking up an appointment last year as a Senior Chaplain at a young offenders institution at Bristol.

Our Minister led worship at the 200th Anniversary of the Baptist church at Glanrhyd in Pembrokeshire. The cause at Glanrhyd was founded in 1811 and since then eleven Minsters have serviced the church, among them Rev T G Morgan who was Minister at Bethel Seaside. Sadly due to the membership having declined and many having moved out of the area over the years this was the last service to be held in the chapel. The service was well attended by friends from other churches and previous members of the church and many local clergy.

Although a sad occasion the service was one of real celebration and thanksgiving for the witness of the church and finished on a positive note with the congregation singing the Doxology. The remaining members of Glanrhyd will now join Baptist churches nearer their homes. There is an active Baptist Association of churches in Pembrokeshire with much going on between the churches.

TUESDAY MORNING
TheTuesday Morning congregation are going on a day trip to St Fagans Museum of Welsh culture on Tuesday of next week. The two coaches will leave Inkerman Street at 10am and there will be lunch in the Museum Restaurant. We will hold a service in the Penrhyw Chapel which will be led by our Minister and members of the congregation.

SASRA
On Monday evening at 7pm there will be a meeting in the schoolroom when we will be led by a representative of SASRA who work and support members of the armed forces.

FAMILY NEWS –
Raymond Owen continues to be at Glangwili Hospital. Peter Hartland has been admitted to Prince Philip Hospital. Gwyneth Honour has celebrated her 90th birthday.

SPREE WALES
‘One amazing weekend with God’ Spree this year is from 1st – 3rd July and already there are over 30 of our youngsters and children going along with leaders from among the older teenagers. As usual the venue is the Millennium Coastal Park Festival Fields.

CHURCH TRIP
The church trip is to Tenby and is on Saturday 17th July leaving Inkerman Street at 9am. Children of the church go free of charge all others the charge is £5. Names to Mrs Carol Jones as soon as possible.

BAPTISM
John and Irene Davies professed their faith by being baptised last Sunday. Both have come to faith in recent months and have been attending our Sunday evening service for over a year. We thank God for them and for the joy we have had in getting to know them during this time. They will be received into membership of the church during the evening Communion service on 3rd July.

THANKS:

To the ladies who have cleaned the chapel and schoolroom during the time Jean has been on holiday. To those who have collected for Christian Aid this year. Along with the May Communion collection we have raised around £1500 so far.

Thanks to Eifion Thomas and Andrew Pike who have helped us by playing the organ these last two weeks. To the Llanelli Historical Society and the St Alban’s Ladies Fellowship meeting at Glenalla who welcomed our Minster who addressed their meetings on some historical aspects of Seaside and Bethel.

Do you like singing? Would you like to be part of a choir for an International Cymanfa Ganu being held at Bethel Baptist Chapel Seaside on Saturday 23rd July at 7pm.? Choir leader will be Ryan Lee – organist Rev David Jones, Burry Port Male Voice choir. Welsh tenor and Opera singers Huw & Liz Priday and a choir of Korean Christians singing the Welsh revival hymns which are very much part of their Korean heritage This is part of the ‘Celebration for the Nations’ being held at the Selwyn Samuel Centre from 22nd – 29th July.

CD RECORDINGS – are available for collection from the vestibule table for those who have ordered them. There are some spares if anyone would like to take them. If you know anyone who would like a regular recording of our services please fill in the form and place in the CD box, CD recordings of the evening service at Greenfield are readily available for those who are housebound. GREENFIELD FAMILY NEWS:
Ken Jarvis is now home from hospital. Gwennie Morris has now been transferred to Llys Y Bryn. Nicola Rees has also been discharged from hospital and is now home Noreena Owen has been admitted to Glangwili Hospital. Katherine Morgan and Michael Thomas were married inthe chapel last Saturday.
We were sorry to hear that Kath MacKay’s brother Dorian has died.

TUESDAY NEWS:
Colin Maclachlan will be taking part in a Marathon in aid of the Army Benevolent Fund. Thanks for those who supported Colin. £200 has been raised from the Tuesday morning service. Margaret Morgan who regularly attended our Tuesday morning service has died. Miss Morgan was resident at Llys Y Coed in Llanelli and was originally from Tumble.

‘OPEN DOOR’:
The ‘Open Door’ fellowship presented £520 for the work of the ‘Ty Hafan’Hospice in Penarth.

BIBLE STUDY:
We re-commence on Tuesday and Wednesday May 10th and 11th. There’s a warm welcome to everyone to come along to either of these meetings. The new session commencing on 10th May will follow the recent 7 week course the young people have been following on Sunday mornings entitled ‘Soul’ Not to be missed – please join with us on 10th or 11th May. ‘Soul’ takes us to the basics of our faith and a valued preparation for Baptism and church membership. ‘BEHOLD THE MAN’:
The church choir presented the Gospel Musical ‘Behold the Man’ on Plam Sunday and Maundy Thursday. This was the fifth musical the choir has rehearsed and presented in the last two years. The choir rehearse on Thursday evenings and is planning another presentation for the autumn.

HOLY WEEK:
It was good to welcome many friends and visitors to all our Easter Services. During the week the cross on the chapel lawn was illuminated and on Good Friday Morning following the Communion service the ‘Open Air’ service onthe chapel lawn was well supported. This was followed by Hot cross buns in the schoolroom.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK:
Quiz Night Friday 20th May at 7.30pm. Get your teams together – Entry forms available in the vestibule. £5per team entry. Followed by coffee. All proceeds for Christian Aid.

TUESDAY SERVICE:
Last Tuesday we celebrated St David’s Day with a special service led by Rev Martin Williams. It was good to see so many present and the Welsh cakes and Bara brith that followed were very much part of the day. Thanks to Martin who was the Minister of Bethel and Seion before moving to Noddfa in Pontardulais.. We welcome many friends and visitors to this service and there is a monthly cakes stall for local good causes. The service begins at 10.30am and is followed by coffee.

FAMILY NEWS:
It has been good to welcome friends from Australia and America to o9ur services in recent weeks. Margaret Hanbury Heulwen Mathias and Edith Hussey and John Morgan have now been discharged from hospital. Gwynfor Williams was admitted to Glangwili Hospital.

SUPPER EVENING:
The schoolroom was filled for the supper evening in aid of the chapel building fund. ‘Sounds Original’ provided the entertainment. Everyone had a good time.

THANKS:
Thanks for the offering taken for Gillian Dewi Davies who has now left for Thailand. Gillian shared with us on Sunday and Tuesday morning and we pray God’s blessing upon her as she serve the Lord at The HopeHome in Chiang Mai.. Thanks to the Llanelli Grammar Old Boys Association who welcomed our Minister as one of their guest speakers at their annual dinner at the Stradey Park Hotel.

FLOWER MINISTRY:
Thanks to everyone who donates flowers for the Communion Table Sunday by Sunday. There are a few ‘gaps’ on the list. If you feel led to give flowers then please be assured there’s every welcome for you to add your name.

‘OPEN DOOR’:
‘Open Door’ Fellowship will re-commence on Wednesday 9th February at 2.30pm. The first meeting will take the form of a ‘Welcome Tea’ which will be an opportunity for new friends to join with us.

TUESDAY NEWS:
We sang Happy Birthday to Phyllis Vaughan Jones who celebrated her 92nd birthday and Deborah Davidson who was 90 last week. Mrs Jones cut the birthday cake and we all had a share. Both Tuesday and Wednesday Bible Studies have seen new friends in recent weeks. All are welcome to join with us for these informal times of Bible Study.

CHOIR:
The church choir are now rehearsing an Easter Musical ‘Behold the Man’ which will be presented on Palm Sunday evening and Maundy Thursday.

LOOKING FORWARD:
Our Minister will be giving the ‘Wednesday Word’ on Roy Noble’s afternoon programme on BBC Radio Wales on 16th February. Church AGM 30th March at 7pm. Rev Tendai Mbaeserah will lead our worship in Sunday 13th February.

GREENFIELD NEWS - 21ST OCTOBER 2010:

Sunday services are at the usual times and will be led by Rev Roger Hart Minister of Pennar Unied Church in Pembroke Dock. The children will leave the evening service for their Hallelujah Party in the
schoolroom.

We warmly welcome Bill and Kath McKay into membership of the church. Bill and Kath have been attending our services for many years and we warmly welcome them into the church family here at Greenfield.

Mair Farriage continues to be at Glangwili Hospital. Gina Jones has been admitted to Prince Philip Hospital. John Morgan It was good to have Mr Tim Day back with us in worship last Sunday. It was also good to see Gladys Griffiths andBeth Bonnel who have also had hospital treatment in recent weeks.

SPONSORED WALK:
Thanks to all who walked and supported the Annual Sponsored Walk last Saturday along the coastal Park. A good number from the church and other freinds made the 5 mile walk in aid of Multiple Slerosis. Thanks to Carol for making all the arrangements.

THANKS:
£515 was collected for Christian Aid outside the Tesco Store. Thanks to all who collected and supported. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so generously towards the new central heating boiler. The fund is still open and our Minister would be glad to hear from anyone who may feel led to donate.

Thanks to Five Roads school who welcomed our Minister to speak at their Harvest Service on Tuesday of last and to the ladies guild at All Saints Church who welcomed our Minister to speak at their weekly meeting last Monday.

BAPTISMAL SERVICE:
There will be a service of Believer’s Baptism on Sunday morning 7th November. Our Minister is available at any time to speak with anyone who may felt led to learn more about Believer’s Baptism.

CHILD PROTECTION:
Mrs Sally George the Child Protection Officer of the South Wales Baptist Association will be with us on Wednesday 15th November at 7pm. Sally will bring us the latest information regarding all aspects of child protection in the life of the church. All youth and children leaders are asked to attend. There’s a warm welcome to anyone interested to come along. Sally will also will be glad to answer any questions.

CELEBRATION BROADCASTS:
On Tuesday 2nd November we will be recording two ‘Celebration’ Services for BBC Wales. There will be a rehearsal for the hymns we will sing the broadcasts at 6.30pm on Thursday 28th October at 6.30pm. Please give the rehearsal and the recording your support. The services will be transmitted on Sunday 21st November and Sunday 26th December.

CHURCH MEETING:
The half yearly church meeting will be held on Wednesday 27th October. All church members are warmly welcome to attend. The meeting will begin at 7pm. The agenda is available on the notice board in the vestibule; any additional items for discussion must be given to the church secretary by next Sunday evening.

FAMILY NEWS:
Marion Stephens is now home from hospital. Beth Bonnell has been in hospital this week and is now home. Mair Farriage haqs been admitted to Glangwili Hospital, Brian and Maggie James have celebrated their silver wedding anniversary.

Mary Griffiths was baptised 70 years ago last Sunday by the late Rev B J Davies.. Mrs Griffiths has been and remains a faithful member of Greenfield for all of these years and Mary is No 2 on our church roll following Gwen Morris, College who was baptised in 1935.

THANKS:
Thanks to Janice Thomas and all who helped arrange the Harvest supper which was held in the schoolroom last Wednesday evening. We all shared a lovely meal together and enjoyed the friendship and fellowship around the tables. Thanks to the choir for their items to Philip Hopper for his solo and to all who supported the evening.

The meetings are friendly and informal and this eight week course is a wonderful opportunity to deepen our knowledge and increase our faith.

Every session beings with a short video introduction with some relevant Bible study and a chance for questions and discussion. There is absolutely no obligation placed on anyone to speak, but anyone wishing to make a contribution or share an experience is more than welcome to do so. CHURCH CHOIR:
We are grateful to the church choir for their Harvest presentation ‘Wonder of wonders’. We begin to rehearse a musical for Christmas. At Greenfield this Sunday there’s a warm welcome The morning service will be an ‘All age’ Family service for Harvest and the evening service is a Gospel celebration with the church choir presenting ‘Wonder of wonders’ a short musical with Gospel songs old and new.

MISSION:

Doreen Hartland and her husband Peter are leaving for Africa this month. Doreen has previously served as a lecturer at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria. Having obtained her Doctorate from the Queen’s University Belfast her experience in teaching and lecturing will greatly benefit Ministerial Students preparing for much needed Ministerial service. During last Sunday morning service we heard from Doreen as to the work they will be doing and we were able to pray for both Doreen and Peter as they leave for Africa this week. Our love and prayers are with them both.

Along with hundreds of others we made our way down to the beach last Thursday evening to see what was reported as the highest tide for many years. We were not disappointed, the sea was fully in with not much left of the shoreline and the water level right up to the arch of the bridge. The North Dock was also at a high level and the channel looked more than a little perilous.

There were many groups of people around among them some Koreans who were having a good time setting off lit balloons which soon disappeared into the cloud filled sky. Others were just enjoying the bracing wind and the smell of the sea while at the same time taking time to chat and even debate the fact that if it was, as reported the highest tide for a generation!

Every year I am given the booklet that gives the highs and lows of the Llanelli tides. Mostly unnoticed by most of us the tides rise and fall and like the dawn of each new day and the changing seasons we take such amazing regularity totally for granted.

There has always been, and no doubt always will be debate and discussion surrounding the origins of the universe and with scepticism and much militant atheism around at the moment the possibility of faith in a creator God is often dismissed out of hand. There again standing on the sea shore seeing the vastness of sea and in wonder at the rising tide and with those lit balloons rising through the cloudy skies it’s really hard not to believe that as the Bible proclaims ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’.

Tony Blair’s Autobiography caused quite a stir on its publication last week. It does make fascinating reading and gives insight into the mind of the only Prime Minister to have led his party into three historic terms of office.

Entitled ‘A Journey’ it begins with the landslide election victory that brought him to Downing Street, to the immense unpopularity of the invasion of Iraq, through to his eventual resignation and all the political wrangling in-between. It’s no surprise that it has become the bestselling autobiography of recent times.

It is, as far as the author is concerned an unfinished journey as there is the distinct feeling as your read that he has much yet to do and many more ambitions to fulfil – the journey goes on.

It’s the same for us. Most of us will never write a book that will make the best seller list and yet we are all on life’s journey. It is when we are sure of the guiding hand of God that a journey becomes a pilgrimage. Then we will know that despite all that happens on the way we are loved and cared for by God who Scripture often describes as the Good Shepherd.

Sometimes our journey will take us into times of anxiety, fear and doubt; along the way we may lose loved ones and friends and such loss will make us feel that we can never move on. It is then he has promised to carry us until we find our feet again, so that at our journey’s end we will look back and see that the Good Shepherd has been with us each step of the way.

In the words of the Shepherd's Psalm – ‘I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever’ – our journey’s end, our sure hope.

FAMILY NEWS:
Margaret Greenwood died on Thursday of this week following a short illness Margaret was baptised at Greenfield in 1948 and has been a faithful lifelong member of the church. Her service to the church has been unfailing. The Sunday school, where she was pianist for many years, the church choir, and in recent years Margaret was the first here on Tuesday mornings to open the kitchen for the Tuesday coffee which followed the service. A good and faithful servant whose warmth and gentle humour we will always remember with gratitude.

Mel and Joan Wheeler would like to sincerely thank all from Greenfield who sent greetings on the occasion of their Ruby Wedding Anniversary. Thank you all so much for your love and good wishes.

CORNERSTONE:
Our congratulations and best wishes to David and Jean Phillips who 25 years ago opened the ‘Cornerstone’ Christian book shop in Llanelli. The bookshop was a great venture of faith for them both and has for the last 25 years been a faithful witness to the Gospel in our town. The first shop was in New Dock Road and from there the shop and cafe moved to its present location in Stepney Street. It is in trusting God and through their faithful Ministry that David and Jean and their daughter Jill have been used by God for the last quarter century.
We thank God for their faithful Ministry in our town and wish them every blessing to the future.

BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY 26th SEPTEMBER:
Invitation and prayer cards will be available from Sunday 5th September. This Sunday will also be our Harvest thanksgiving. The morning service will be ‘All age’ family worship and in the evening the church choir will present the Christian musical ‘Wonder of Wonders’

TUESDAY WORSHIP:
It was good to welcome Peter Jackson who led our service last Tuesday. Peter gave a good message and played for us at the conclusion of the service. It has been good in recent weeks to see our Tuesday congregation increase in numbers. Please join with us. We begin at 10.30am with a half hour service in the chapel and this is followed by coffee in the schoolroom. Any donations made for coffee are for good causes.

The monthly cakes stall which is held on the first Tuesday of every month has raised several thousand pounds for mainly local causes. In the last few months we have been able for support the Parkinson’s society and the Prostate Cancer Association

The ‘Happy Bag’ proves to be popular in the children’s ‘spot’ during our Sunday morning services at Greenfield in these summer months. Every week one of the children in our congregation fills a bag with three or four items and I have share a few thoughts on each one. The idea is simple and yet often quite revealing, dependant of course on what appears from the bag, and I am the first to admit that I have been caught out a good few times!

Last Sunday, however, Kieran certainly had me lost for words – this attractive ring box, which in itself was a work of art, appeared from the bag. I immediately said how much we looked forward to opening the box and seeing what was surely going to be an equally beautiful piece of jewellery. All the time Kieran was looking at me with a broad smile, and I soon found out why.
On opening the box I was speechless and the glint in the little boy’s eye said ‘got you! The box was well and truly empty. Everything I was going to say went out the window!

There again it was such a profound message! Jesus condemned outwardly ‘religious’ people who hid behind a veneer of faith, who practiced their beliefs outwardly to impress others and yet inside lacked any love and tolerance of others. Kieran had a message for us all last Sunday in that it is in believing and showing God’s love, compassion and forgiveness that we truly are the people we are meant to be.
To follow Jesus and allow his beauty and grace to be seen in our lives so that inner faith becomes alive in expressions of praise and worship which overflow in deeds of kindness and compassion and service to others. In the words of St Francis to be channels of God’s peace in what is often a cold and indifferent world. Thanks Kieran

GREENFIELD NEWS - 2ND AUGUST 2010:

Sunday services are at the usual times. The morning service will include infant dedication and will be led by our Minister.
Tuesday morning worship continues all through August. A half hour service in the chapel followed by coffee and fellowship in the schoolroom. This month the cakes stall is in aid of the Parkinsons society. All are welcome.

Mair Williams and Gina Jones are now home from hospital. Sonia Spencer has received her degree in nursing. It was good to welcome Alan Isaac to last Sunday morning’s service. Alan was brought up in Greenfield and emigrated to Australia many years ago.

BACK TO THE CHURCH SUNDAY:
Sunday September 26th is our Harvest Thanksgiving and is also ‘Back to church’ Sunday. This is a national church initiative to welcome neighbours and friends to return to church.

Our next Christianity Explored course will follow in October and we pray that this will be a real time of mission in the life of the church.

The evening service on September 26th will be a service of praise led by the choir choir on a Gospel theme with a presentation of the Gospel musical ‘Wonder of Wonders’. Please pray for this mission. There will be a special prayer breakfast on Saturday 4th September at 8.30am.

CHURCH CHOIR – The church choir rehearsals take a break for the summer following two rehearsals this week. In September the choir begins rehearsing their Christmas presentation ‘Christmas is a Birthday’

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK:

All roads lead to Ebbw Vale this week as the National Eisteddfod welcomes visitor from all over the world. It hardly seems ten years since our Millennium fields in Llanelli welcomed this prestigious event and as a community we were totally taken up with all the excitement of hosting the first Eisteddfod of the new millennium.

If the opening concert last Friday was anything to go by, with the long anticipated ‘Only boys aloud!’ taking the stage then this week will be long remembered for the tremendous talent and great cultural potential we have as a nation.

The Bible tells us that God created all nations. From one people chosen by God came the Saviour of the world and through the coming of Jesus came hope and light for all nations. We are greatly blessed as a people whose rich Christian heritage has had great influence on all aspects of our nationhood.

Our faith, expressed in song and verse has reached our far beyond the boundaries of our land. The amazing talent we have exported both politically and in the world of entertainment has and continues to have great influence on the world stage.

It is good then to celebrate and to give thanks for all we have and continue to celebrate as a nation, and to take our place among all the nations of the world seeking always the ways of peace, tolerance and love.

The end of July is the time when summer really begins for me. As far as times and season are concerned it is, of course the 21 June which heralds it’s beginning. It is then that the evenings lengthen and the nip of spring gives way to the warmth of summer.

Now, however, for most families with school holidays upon us is the time for taking that well earned break, to explore new locations or even to just relax at home proving that change of routine is, indeed, as good as a rest.

It’s the same in the life of the church. Most mid week meetings and the youth and children’s meetings take a break for August. Now we have more time to come closer to God in the beauty of His creation and in the quietness of our own times of prayer.

When away from home we also have the opportunity of worshipping with others, Worshipping, even in a church of a different tradition to our own can be truly inspiring and a reminder of the rich resources of language, tradition and culture that is within the church.

Taking the time when we arrive at our holiday destination to find a church and the times of its services can pay great spiritual benefits It all adds up to making the summer a real time of change, rest and great blessing !

Marian Villiers is now home from hospital Stella Muggeridge has been discharged from hospital and is now at ‘Y Bwthyn’ Mair Williams and Gina Jones have been admitted to Prince Philip Hospital. Joan Moore has been discharged from hospital.

One of our oldest church members Mrs Mattie Seward died peacefully on Tuesday aged 96. Mattie was much much loved and worked in Llanelli Market for all of her life. The funeral service will be held at Greenfield on Wednesday (today) at 11.30am.
Golden Wedding greetings to Alan and Megan Griffiths on their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Monday 26th July. They were married at Greenfield by Rev Thomas Gibbon. Ruby Wedding greetings to Mel and Joan Wheeler.

Kathryn Lloyd, daughter of Carol and Robert Lloyd, has graduated from Cardiff University. Kathryn gained a 2:1 BSc degree in physiotherapy. She is now planning an around-the-world adventure before embarking on a career in physiotherapy. Her father is delighted that her chosen career will be very handy to treat some of the ailments he now suffers in old age!

Rhian Jones and Stephen Coombes will bemarried on Friday 23rd July at Bethel Baptist Chapel in Seaside.

SUMMER 2010:
As usual most of the weekday services and meetings are now in recess for the summer.
The Tuesday morning service will continue all through the summer. Any prayer requests especially for the sick and bereaved can be placed in the ‘Welcome Box’ in the vestibule. There will be a time set apart for prayers on Tuesday mornings. Prayer cards for this purpose are also on the table in the vestibule or can be e mailedto David at detjonescaeglas@aol.com or through the church website david@greenfieldchurch.org.uk.

THANKS:
To Mr Philip Hooper who arranged the men’s fellowship trip to Bath and Wells last Wednesday. The day concluded with Evensong at Wells Cathedral. To Mrs Carol Jones for arranging the church trip to Tenby. The sun shone (eventually!) and everyone had a good time.
Thanks for the £270 raised by the Tuesday morning cakes stall for the Prostate Cancer sponsored walk which Gareth Jones completed last month. Gareth shared with the Tuesday congregation the highlights of his 67 mile walk.

Thanks to Darryl, Stephen Simon. Calvin, Michael, Sue and the ladies who prepared tea for the Baptismal service held in the chapel last Sunday afternoon.

BAPTIST UNION OF WALES:
Delegates from all over Wales met for the annual conference of the Welsh wing of the Baptist Union of Wales. Our Minister led the opening united Communion service on Sunday morning. The welcome banner we placed on the railings of Greenfield was spotted by most of the delegates who were appreciative of the welcome to the town and to Bethel.

The news that BP had finally capped the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico brought a great sense of relief to an area whose marine and wildlife has been devastated by the outpouring of millions of gallons of oil. The greatest tragedy was, of course, the loss of life that happened when the explosion first occurred.

The President of the United States soon led the worldwide condemnation and warned BP that they would be expected to fully compensate those whose livelihoods had been ruined. Now after months of uncertainty and many failed attempts to cap the leak the end seems in sight. Work now goes on to secure a permanent end to what has been one of the greatest enveironmentical disasters of modern times.

Sometimes in life our actions can lead us totally in the wrong direction. Before too long the consequences can even affect those we love as we have allowed our own selfishness and arrogance to dominate our lives. That’s why we need the assurance that despite our foolishness that God loves us still. As in the story Jesus told of the father who welcomed home his wayward son, so God accepts us and forgives us despite our stubbornness and slowness to learn from our chequered pasts.

The moment we truly repent of our sins the floodgates of God’s love are opened and we are assured of Jesus’ promise that we will never be rejected or turned away. The truth of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus is that here there is a permanent and everlasting way to deal with the enormity of our sin and we can find lasting peace and forgiveness.

It cost Jesus everything and is freely given to all who know that they have got things terribly wrong and who allow His grace to heal the wounds of our rebelliousness. ‘Ransomed, healed restored, forgiven, who like me your praise shall sing!’

We sympathise with Mrs Audrey Johns in the death of her sister Gladys. Rhian Jones and Stephen Coombes will be married at Bethel, Seaside on Friday at 12 noon.

THANKS:

Thought for the week

Well it’s all over! Spain the deserving victors as a global audience tuned in to view the winning team clinch the final in extra time. Lifting the world cup trophy highboth players and supporters were ecstatic in their victory. Their celebrations will have continued well into the night and into the rest of this week. The team is guaranteed a rapturous welcome when they eventually return home and it will be a long time before the excitement and jubilation will eventually subside.

It was, of course, equally as disappointing for Holland who, having come so far to have fallen at the final hurdle was a cruel blow. There again that’s the name of the game, there are winners and losers, and thankfully we were spared the dreaded penalty shoot outs which always seem to rub salt in the wounds of any losing team.

We go through a whole range of emotions on the edge of our seats willing our team to win. That may well sum up our own lives especially when we’re not sure how the problems we have are going to turn out. Like Sunday’s match we can experience every emotion from anxiety, frustration to the heights of elation.

One thing’s for sure the Bible tells us that God neither slumbers nor sleeps. He is ever near to us when things are going well and we’re on the highest of the high, but even more so when the pressures and uncertainties of life suddenly descend.

Jesus taught us to pray ‘Our Father’ and that’s enough for us to know that in trusting and believing in Jesus that despite all that can happen in our lives we are always on the winning side!

A highly successful businessman fell in love! In terms of money and influence he was up there at the top. A chance meeting with a young lady led to romance. Finding himself completely infatuated by her beauty and charm in no time he was ready to propose marriage. However, considering his wealth he decided to investigate her past. Eventually the private investigator brought an unblemished report.

His wife to be was everything he had hoped for. As he read the report he began to sit back in his chair totally relieved until he came to the last sentence. ‘Just one concern’ it read. ‘Lately she has been seen out with a certain businessman whose character and business deals are certainly questionable!’

Jesus told the story of a religious man and a tax collector who went to the temple to pray. The religious man full of arrogance and self righteousness boasted of his goodness and religious dedication while at the same time viewing with contempt the man at his side. The tax collector on the other hand confessed his sins pleading to God for forgiveness. Jesus said that it was the tax collector who was forgiven while the religious man brought condemnation on himself for his arrogant self righteousness.

Jesus’ story illustrated the eternal truth that we all stand in need of God’s mercy and that none of us can boast about ourselves. In knowing this we will then see others around us not as objects of condemnation but fellow travellers along the way, sometimes weak, often getting things wrong but loved and redeemed by God’s amazing love!

We warmly welcomed eight friends into membership of the church during last Sunday morning’s Communion service.

Roddy Macloud SASRA (The armed forces Scripture readers association) led both services last Tuesday.

THANKS: To all who helped and supported the Strawberry tea. The sun shone and £800 was raised for the Baptist Missionary Society BMS World Mission. Thanks to all the helpers, those who donated cakes and greetings cards and to John for the plants. The strawberries, scones etc were also donated.

LOOKING FORWARD:

We have been asked by Rev Martin Williams, Minister of Noddfa Evangelical Church in Pontardulais to borrow the chapel for a baptismal service. The service will be held on Sunday at 2pm.

MUSIC IN WORSHIP:

LOOKING FORWARD:

FAMILY NEWS:

Margaret Thomas died peacefully at Hafan Y Coed on Satuday 22nd May aged 89. A service of thanksgiving for Margaret’s life will be held at Greenfield on Thursday 3rd June at 1.30pm followed by a committal services the Llanelli Crematorium at 2.30pm.

Russell Bowen died at Glangwili Hospital on Monday 24th May aged 81 years. Russell came to us when Park Church closed and we have enjoyed his friendship and fellowship since that time. Russ was faithful to the services of the church and he will be missed. . A service of thanksging for Russell’s life will also be held at Greenfield next Thursday at 10.30am followed by a committal service at the Llanelli Crematorium at 11.30am.

We were sorry to hear of the sudden death of Mr Andrew Newcombe. The funeral service will be held at Greenfield on Saturday 5th June at 10.15am followed by cremation at the Llanelli Crematorium at 11.30am.

Mervyn Hanbury has been admitted to Glangwili Hospital. John Davies (Bryn) continues to be at Glangwili., Ron Thomas has been admitted to Prince Phillip Hospital.

THANKS:
To all who have sponsored Gareth Jones who is taking part in a 67 mile sponsored walk along Hadrian’s Wall next week for the prostate cancer association. Gareth is hoping to complete the walk next weekend. Thanks also to the Tuesday morning congregation who are donating the proceeds of the next two monthly cakes stalls in support of the walk.

To Mrs Joan Hancock for making and selling greeting cards for Home Mission. There was a brisk sale on Tuesday morning and we are grateful for Joan’s committed wok on behalf of Home Mission. Christian Aid this year is fast approaching £2000. Thanks for such generosity.

Russell Bowen and Margaret Thomas continue to be at Prince Philip Hospital. Mervyn Hanbury has been in hospital last week and is now home. Susan Wooller has been in hospital and is now home.

John Davies (Bryn) has also been admitted to Glangwili. Derick Stephens has had surgery at Prince Philip and is now home.
It was good to have Dilys Sharp in our morning service last Sunday. We were alsoglad to see Ian Davies who is still in plaster following his accident. Lil Evans is alsoback in the services following her accident.

THANKS:
To the church choir who sang the Roger Jones anthem ‘O love that will not let me go’ last Sunday evening. The choir meet every Thursday evening at 6.30pm. They will present another Roger Jones anthem ‘Man of Sorrows’ at the evening communion service in June. If you enjoy singing please join with us – you would be very welcome.

MEN’S FELLOWSHIP:
John Williams of the Llanelli Historical Society addressed the fellowship on the history of Llanelli in 1850. It was an interesting address with slides and maps which showed a Llanelli now vastly changed from those days. The fellowship are planning their summer trip to Wells in July.

WEDNESDAY WORD:
Our Minister will be presenting the ‘Wednesday Word’ on Roy Noble’s programme on BBC Radio Wales today at approximately 2.30pm.

BIBLE STUDY:
The Wednesday lunch time Bible study is an opportunity for a short time of studying and sharing together. Numbers have increased in recent weeks. We begin at 1.10pm and conclude by 1.50pm. There is some lively discussion and if you can’t make it on Tuesday evenings you are more than welcome. The Christianity Explored course which begins in June will also be held in a shortened form on Wednesday lunch times from June. For more information please contact David on Llanelli 741127

Thought for the week

One disturbing feature of last week’s general election was seeing hundreds of would be voters being turned away from polling stations. It’s beyond all reasoned argument that such a thing could or should have happened in a modern democracy. To slam closed doors in the face of those who had been queuing at length showed a total lack of respect and was a blight on our whole democratic process.

If those waiting had arrived before the 10pm deadline they should have been allowed to exercise their right to vote. Hopefully lessons will have been learned and that this insult to our democracy will never be allowed to happen again.

The Bible speaks much of social justice and the worth which God places on us all. Jesus took it a step further by reminding us that God knows us personally and that we are all valued and loved by the God who created the ends of the earth. Such divine compassion is, as the Psalmist says, too vast and wonderful for us to fully understand and yet this is the very nature and character of God.

Although many have tried, no one has the right to confine or close the doors to all who come to him.

Jesus invites us to walk through the door of faith and to be sure that we will never be turned away. Why then wait any longer in the cold and darkness of the night? ‘Come to me’ said Jesus, ‘all you who are tired of carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest’. The door is open wide and there’s a welcome for you!

THANKS:
John Soale has raised £130 for the chapel building fund from the sale of tomatoes plants. Thanks to all who made cakes for the monthly cakes stall last Tuesday which raised £200 for the children’s centre at Llys Caradog. The cakes stall for June and July will support Gareth Jones who is taking part in a sponsored walk for the Prostrate Cancer society. The church is grateful for all the letters of thanks for the Cross on the chapel lawn over the Easter week.

CHRISTIANITY EXPLORED:

This Sunday we welcome local scouts and guides to our morning worship which be an ‘All Age’ Family service. Both services will be led by our Minister.

FAMILY NEWS:

Alan Hancock and Glyn Davies are at Glangwili . Margaret Thomas and Russell Bowen are at Prince Philip Hospital. We also remember friends and members who are unwell at home. Lil Evans, Mair Williams and David Kinnear are in our thoughts this week. Lucy Bush and Lee Jenkins were married at the chapel last Saturday

TEEN CHALLENGE:

‘The Evidence’ A presentaion by Teen challenge will be held at the chapel on Friday at 7pm. This is a dramatic presentation by young men who have come through drug addiction given in testimony and song..

THANKS:

For the £100 raised at last Tuesday’s cakes stall for the Llys Caradog children’s centre. For the Communion offering taken on Good Friday morning for the South Wales Baptist College which amounted to £330.

SPREE WALES:

Spree Wales is the weekend 2nd-4th July this year and we are planning to join with other churches from the town to make a group again. If you are 8-15 year old and want to join us the cost will be £30 +£5 food if you book with a £15 non-returnable deposit before the 31st March (after this it goes up by £5). Friends from outside the church are very welcome. Sarah Ellum and Steve Thomas will have more details downstairs after the service

MEN’S MEETING:

Local historian Lynn John spoke to the men’s fellowship on the the Rebecca riots.

CHRISTIANITY EXPLORED:

Congratulations to Adam & Theresa Rowley on the birth of their baby son Joshua James on March 28th at Glangwili Hospital and also to Philip and Myra Hooper on the birth of a grandson. Willliam Thomas Hooper a baby son to parents John and Emma.

Alan Hancock has been admitted to Glangwili Hospital. Rev Jeffrey Morgan has also been admitted to Glangwili Hospital. We send Mr Morgan our warmest good wishes for a speedy recovery. We remember in our prayer all those who are unwell within the church family. Congratulations to Lucy Bush and Lee Jenkins on their marriage at Greenfield next Saturday.

LOOKING FORWARD:
‘The Evidence’ a musical presentation by Teen Challenge Friday 23rd April, 2010 at 7pm.We will be joined with local scouts and guides at our morning service on Sunday 25th April.

THANKS:
Thanks to the church choir for their presentation of the musical ‘Jesus is Lord’ on two occasion last week. There is no doubt that the musical was well received by everyone who attended the services. Thanks to Jillian Lewis for her narration and to Simon Davies who was supported by Darryl Benjamin who were responsible for the sound and accompaniment. The offering for the work of Christian Aid amounted to £270

EASTER SERVICES:
We thank God for the many friends and visitors who came along to our services this Holy Week. The Good Friday Communion service was very well attended and many joined in the ‘Open air’ service that followed on the lawn. Despite the rain that seemed to be in for the day we were given enough time to sing our songs of praise and witness to those passing by.

On Easter Sunday evening we welcomed Sandra Davies, Sheenah Angelone and Michale Wooller to serve for a four year term as deacons of the church.

LENTEN STUDIES:
It has been good to welcome many new friends to the Lenten Studies we have held on Tuesday evenings and Wednesday lunch times in the weeks leading up to Easter. Every session was introduced by a short film clip where Jeff Lucas outlined the messages based on Mark’s Gospel. We re-commence our Bible studies on Tuesday 13th April at 7pm and Wednesday 14th April at 1.50pm. All are welcome.

‘OPEN DOOR’:
On 14th April the meetings will be held at the Llanelli Presbyterian Church. Would all meet at Presby at 2.30pm. On 21st April the meeting will be addressed by Mrs Evans.

MEN’S FELLOWSHIP
The newly formed Men’s Fellowship is arranging a summer trip to Bath and Wells on Wednesday 14th July. The coach will leave at 7.30am and will then leave Bath for Wells at 1.30pm, leaving Wells at 6pm following Evensong at Wells Cathedral. Names and money to Terry Pike by 12th May. Any seats left £14 per head.

CHURCH CHOIR:
The church choir meet every Thursday evening at 6.30pm until 8pm. Besides times of rehearsal and learning new songs and anthems for our Sunday evening worship, they also prepare musical presentations for Christmas, Easter and are now looking forward to preparing a Gospel Concert for presentation in the summer. Please join with us –there’s a warm welcome for singers in all parts. If you have a desire to praise God in song then you would be very welcome. Please have a word with David or Calvin at any time.
